President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has formulated a board to counsel the Minister of Economic Development on determining minimum wage.
The president formulated the board to coincide with the International Labour Day. Setting a minimum wage is one of President Solih's electoral pledges.
In his nationwide address to coincide with the International Labour Day, the president highlighted setting a minimum wage warrants immediate attention, to encourage more Maldivians to join the labour force.
Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail has assured counsel of all stakeholders would be considered before setting the minimum wage. He expressed confidence that efforts to set a minimum wage would be successful, with the counsel of the board.
The five-member board formulated to counsel the Minister of Economic Development on determining minimum wage consists of a representative of the government, two representatives of employers, and two representatives of workers.
