Parliamentary Group Leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Aslam has stated efforts will be exerted to establish special committees in the 19th parliament cycle to ensure human rights, climate change and environmental issues.
Speaking to PSM News, Parliamentarian Mohamed Aslam said Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) are formulating reports regarding the situation and violation of human rights in the country, adding however, there are obstructions in acting upon the reports. He noted priority is given by the administration in ensuring human rights.
Announcing plans to compete for the speaker of the parliament, Aslam said there are committees in other developed countries within the parliament to oversee human rights.
Furthermore, noting Maldives voices out on climate impacts, Aslam said the administration prioritises protecting and preserving the environment as much. He assured to address major issues in Maldives during the 19th parliament.
