President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed participated in the official flag hoisting ceremony held early Saturday morning to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Maldives’ Independence. The event was held at the Republic Square at 06:00 am.
The President and First Lady were joined by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and other senior government officials.
Upon their arrival at the Republic Square, President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha were greeted by the Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and the Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim. The flag hoisting was conducted with full military honour.
Following the flag hoisting, a special prayer was recited as part of the ceremony. The ceremony was then concluded with the National Anthem performed by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s military band.
The Maldives celebrates its Independence Day each year on 26 July.
