New PNC leadership meets former President Yameen

The new leadership of People's National Congress (PNC) has met former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held at the party office of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). However, no details of the meeting were disclosed.

While the meeting was held with the former president, the general meeting was held late Friday where the party leader and deputy leaders were appointed. In this regard, PNC appointed Parliamentarian Abdul Raheem Abdulla as the president of the party. Abdul Raheem Abdulla was appointed to the position without a voting process as he was the only candidate who expressed interest for the post.

Meanwhile, 5 individuals competed for the 4 deputy leader posts, including former Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef, former Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, Parliamentarian Ibrahim Shujau, Parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik and former Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited Mohamed Nimal. The latter missed out on the 4 slots.

Previously, the party charter states the deputy leader of the party must be held by two members. However, the party amended the charter at the general meeting and appointed four members as deputy leaders.
