VIA upgrades the Border Control System

Velana International Airport (VIA) has upgraded the border control system to ensure the security protection.

VIA is now equipped with upgraded software and hardware equipment needed for the system. In this regard, VIA installed cameras to monitor border security activities and upgraded finger print systems.

Controller of Immigration Ahmed Hussain said the Personal Identification Security Comparison and Evaluation System (PISCES) will further boost the services in the airport. He said the software will be used to store information of all visitors arriving to Maldives despite their form of transportation.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister of State for Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology Ali Solih highlighted the poor situation of the border control in Maldives. He stated collective efforts from Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, Maldives Immigration, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and other relevant authorities are now underway to install 70 border control systems.
