A team from National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) of Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has visited Male' Prison.
The main aim of the visit is to measure how much the suggestions made in reports compiled in 2011, 2014 and 2017 were implemented, according to HRCM. The commission revealed the visit also aims to inquire why the process is slow and why it is not implemented, and to provide solutions for the challenges in implementation. HRCM said as per normal procedure, a paper will be compiled and submitted to Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) within three days following the visit to prison.
Furthermore, HRCM said a meeting will be held with MCS to discuss and assist in the implementation process of the points noted in the report compiled after this year's visit.
HRCM noted follow-ups will be conducted twice each year.
