Maldivians in Sri Lanka urged to stay indoors during curfew hours

Maldives Embassy in Sri Lanka has advised to Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka to stay indoors during curfew hours. The Government of Sri Lanka has invoked emergency powers following curfew in the wake of bomb attacks on hotels and churches.

Maldivian Embassy in Colombo asked to contact the embassy hotline to seek any information. Maldivian Embassy said information and advisory to be delivered will be updated on their official twitter account and website.

Previously, Maldives Embassy has advised Maldivians currently in Sri Lanka to keep passports with themselves at all times when they are outside. Maldivian Embassy in Colombo revealed security authorities in Sri Lanka may search homes, following the series of bombings that took place island-wide on Sunday.

Moreover, the embassy said the security personnel may check persons from checkpoints when on roads, urging to ensure the passports and visas are on hand. The Embassy appealed everyone to follow the advices and notices by Sri Lankan authorities and to cooperate with them.

Following the bombings, the Government of Sri Lanka began imposing curfew at times and have heightened security measures.
