The Commonwealth Elections Observer Team, headed by the former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Bruce Golding has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid.
During the meeting which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Golding commended the peaceful and organized manner in which the parliamentary elections were held. He mentioned that elections officials demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and integrity, and was impressed with the responsible use of technology by the Elections Commission of Maldives to conduct the elections.
Following the conclusion of the elections, the Commonwealth Observer Team released a preliminary statement on their findings during the mission. The statement from the Commonwealth reflects the conducive environment visible prior to the elections, as well as the positive manner in which voting took place on the Election Day itself.
A full report of the findings of the Observer Group will be submitted at a later date along with recommendations.
