Rights of minority will be ensured: MDP

Parliamentarian Eva Abdulla has assured main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will alter parliament regulations in efforts to ensure rights of the minority in parliament.

Speaking at a programme aired on PSM News, Parliamentarian Eva revealed although the main ruling party secured the majority of parliament, rights of the minority will be ensured. In this regard, Eva said highlighted the previous administration described democracy as deciding everything as wished by the majority of parliament.

Noting despite winning a super majority in parliament, MDP should safeguard the minority, Eva Abdulla said the parliament regulations will be amended as part of the efforts. The opposition must be given chance to express their opinions, adding not only the 65 members of MDP should have a voice in parliament, stated Eva.

Furthermore, Eva assured the super majority of MDP will serve the country responsibly. Highlighting MDP promotes equality, Eva added all bills proposed by the government will not be passed as it is. She reiterated changes will be brought to the bills if needed.

MDP secured 65 out of the 87 seats in the parliamentary elections held on April 6.
