International observers of the parliamentary election have commended the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) for holding a free, fair and a credible election.
At a press briefing held at Hotel Jen regarding Parliamentary Election 2019 Observer Programme, International Observers revealed the election was monitored and observed from the beginning of voting since announcing of results. Noting the ECM has provided a transparent environment for the voting process, international observers expressed the whole process was free and fair.
Moreover, the delegation highlighted the voting process was also conducted free from all obstructions and influences adding the smooth election shows that democracy is growing in Maldives. Saying the complaints were relatively less compared to previous elections, international observers said no acts that may hinder or create chaos were seen during the process while they were in the field in some stations.
Furthermore, international observers lauded the decision to extend the voting period by two hours depending on the weather.
