Parliament secretariat has revealed the oath taking ceremony for the newly elected parliamentarians will be held on May 28. However, the venue of the ceremony was not disclosed by parliament secretariat.
The parliamentary election held on April 6 was a remarkable win for the main ruling party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which won 65 seats of the parliament including all cities of the country, according to interim results.
The second most seats at the parliament were secured by Jumhooree Party (JP) with 6 seats. Opposition coalition of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Alliance (PNC) secured 7 seats and 6 candidates who contested individually secured their slot at parliament. However, Adhaalath Party, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party DRP), Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) and Maldives Labor and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP) concluded the race with no seats.
The 18th parliament cycle will end by the end of April. The 19th parliament cycle will begin in June.
