ACC seeks assistance from Police in stopping bribery

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought assistance from Maldives Police Service amid complaints of bribery to influence the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to be held tomorrow.

In a statement, ACC said it has asked for the assistance of the police service to stop acts of bribery which may influence the elections. ACC revealed several efforts are initiated to stop all acts of corruption, since corruption and bribery increases during elections. ACC also requested to submit complaints of corruption and bribery to the commission.

Any gift, objects or money given to gain an electoral right, in favour of a person or a group of persons is considered as bribery, according to General Elections Act.
