There are no grounds to postpone elections: ECM

Elections Commission of Maldives has assured there are no legal grounds to postpone the parliamentary elections scheduled for April 6.

Speaking to media regarding the updates on the parliamentary elections, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef stated the electoral body did not conduct activities that may cause the elections to be postponed. Shareef noted all procedures were followed ensuring no glitches were caused as part of the efforts to ensure the elections are held on the scheduled date.

Noting all rules and regulations were followed from the beginning, Ahmed Shareef expressed the commission is ready to answer any queries regarding the procedures followed. Shareef assured the commission conducted everything accordingly.

Highlighting 99% of the preparations are now complete, Shareef said delaying an election which is held at a cost of USD 2 million will be a huge loss to the state.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has also expressed there are no grounds to delay the parliamentary elections. The parliamentary elections is scheduled to be held on April 6.
