Environment Minister calls on to fulfill pledges on climate change

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has called on the international community to fulfil the commitments under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC). The Maldivian environment minister made the remarks while addressing the High-Level Meeting on Climate and Sustainable Development for all held at the United Nations headquarters.

Addressing the meeting, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed highlighted the vulnerability of the climate and the impacts of climate change. He called on to raise awareness about climate change and to take steps against climate change. Furthermore, Minister Hussain Rasheed assured Maldives will always raise awareness among public and take preventive steps to protect from impacts of climate change.

Noting the current financial resources which are available are difficult to access, the minister stated it result in the problems to worsen. Moreover, the environment minister spoke on the measures taken by Maldives on a national level.

The objectives of the high-level meeting include highlighting the inter-linkages between climate and economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development for present and future generations including the synergies between the climate agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
