Enhancing border control system is crucial for tourism: Maldives Immigration

Controller General of Maldives Immigration Mohamed Ahmed Hussain has stated enhancing the border control system is crucial as Maldives is widely dependent on tourism.

Addressing the ceremony held to inaugurate Border Security, Fraudulent Identities and Document Security Training Programme, Controller General Mohamed Ahmed Hussain said while several efforts need to be exerted to enhance border control system, all relevant authorities must work together to achieve the goal.

Noting Maldives Immigration has come a long way, Mohamed Ahmed Hussain said he now aspire to set out new border control approach. He revealed securing borders and facilitation of legitimate travellers is what border protection is all about, adding it is needed to coordinate with respective authorities to secure borders, while facilitating genuine travellers.

Moreover, the controller general highlighted most cross border crimes are committed by individuals using fraudulent identities and documents, further adding crimes such as human smuggling, human trafficking, terrorist mobility, smuggling of drugs are also mostly carried out through border control channels.

The three-day Border Security, Fraudulent Identities and Document Security Training Programme is attended by 114 participants from relevant authorities.
