Imports decrease by 10% in February

Maldives Customs Service has revealed goods imported during last February decreased by 10 percent compared to that of the same period last year, which is a decrease from USD 246 million in February 2018 to USD 226 million in February 2019.

The largest quantity of the imports in February this year was from UAE which contributed to 18 percent of the total imports and Singapore coming in second with 17 percent of the total imports, according to statistics.

Furthermore, value of goods exported during February increased by 16 percent compared to February last year. In this regard, approximately USD 14.760 million worth of goods were exported during February last year, whereas this year the figure was recorded at USD 17 million. Among the top exporting countries, Thailand was recorded the highest with 46 percent and Germany in second with 11 percent of the total exports.

Moreover, statistics showed the total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during February decreased by 5 percent compared to that of February last year. A total of over USD 15.5 million was collected through customs duty last month.
