Gender Minister attends session of the commission on the status of women

Minister of Gender, Family and Social Service Shidhatha Shareef has arrived in New York to attend the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women held in United Nations Headquarters.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. Gender Ministry revealed the Gender Minister will address the 63rd CSW.

Speaking to media before her departure, Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef said during the session, she will deliver information about the works exerted by administration to ensure gender equality and protect rights of children and women.

The CSW is instrumental in promoting women's rights, documenting the reality of women's lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The 63rd session of CSW will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 11 to 22 March 2019.

Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world are expected to attend the session.

The priority theme of the session is social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls while review theme is women's empowerment and the link to sustainable development.
