MIRA receive USD 138 million as tax in January 2019

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has collected USD 138 million as tax in January. The amount collected as tax last month is an increase of 2.2% compared to the amount estimated by the authority.

The revenue collected through tax was increased due to the receipt of Lease Period Extension Fee and increment in tourist arrivals by 5.4% compared to December 2018, which led to a higher collection of Tourism Goods and Service Tax (TGST) in January 2019, according to statistics.

In January, the state received the most tax as Business Profit Tax (BPT) which amounted to 41.4% of the total tax collected. The next highest was generated as Goods and Services Tax (GST) which was 37.5% of the total tax collected.
