Environment Ministry to install an incinerator in Kulhudhuffushi

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has pledged to install an incinerator in Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll to solve the waste management issued faced in the island. The environment minister made the announcement after assessing the situation of the Kulhudhuffushi waste dumping area, as part of his trip to some islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

After the visit to the area, Minister Hussain Rasheed met with the local council and discussed ways to improve waste management in the island. Speaking to PSM News after the meeting, the minister said the waste management sector in Kulhudhuffushi is in a critical condition. The environment minister said efforts will be exerted to install an incinerator in the island, adding the council has been asked to formulate a waste management plan. He assured of technical and financial support to the island council to formulate the plan.

In September 2018, a team from Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) cleaned the beach area of Kulhudhuffushi and collected 650 tonnes of waste within two days.
