More than half of membership forms submitted by PNC are invalid

Elections Commission of the Maldives has revealed 1,950 forms were valid from the 4,000 forms submitted by People’s National Congress (PNC).

PSM News has learnt that only 1,950 forms were declared invalid by Elections Commission and asked PNC to submit more forms to meet the required amount of 3,000 forms. A party needs to submit at least 3,000 valid forms to register at the Elections Commission, according to the Political Party Act.

PNC revealed the Elections Commission asked to submit an additional 1,000 forms, adding more forms have now been submitted. Permission was granted to PNC to form a political party on December 27, 2018. PNC submitted 4,000 forms on January 9.
