Maldives express interest to increase trade and investment with Switzerland

The government of Maldives have expressed interest to explore opportunities to increase trade and investment with Switzerland.

During the call following the ceremony held at the President's Office for the new Ambassador of Switzerland to Maldives Hanspeter Mock to present his Letter of Credence, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih indicated Maldives attaches great importance to the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation with Switzerland and expressed hope the friendly relations will continue to strengthen in the days ahead.

Further, President Solih welcomed Ambassador Mock to the Maldives and congratulated him on the commencement of his tenure. The president also emphasised interest of the government of Maldives to explore opportunities to increase trade and investment with Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Mock stated it was a privilege to be appointed as the Ambassador to Maldives, and expressed wish to further strengthen and diversify existing bilateral relations with Maldives. The president and the ambassador discussed common issues of concern in the international arena such as human rights, democracy and climate change.

Concluding the call, Ambassador Mock commended the Maldivian government's first 100-day pledges stating it is a very bold and ambitious agenda. He further reiterated earnest desire of the Swiss government to provide support to Maldives.
