Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has revealed inspection of all entities that provide services to tourists will be conducted in the next 6-8 months.
Speaking to media, Tourism Minister Ali Waheed said a special committee has been formed under the initiative of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to ensure the safety and security of tourists. He revealed the committee is tasked with inspecting all the entities that provide services to tourists and monitor whether the service providers follow the necessary laws and regulations.
Furthermore, the tourism minister added the inspection is conducted to improve the sector rather than to identify issues. However, Ali Waheed assured if any issues are identified, the authorities will work to solve it. He highlighted extreme precautions will be taken to ensure tourists does not have to face any unfavourable incidents in Maldives.
So far this year, 9 tourists and 3 staff have died, in addition to 2 major fire incidents reported in 2 resorts.
