MTCC commences Kulhudhuffushi harbour expansion project

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the project to expand the harbour in Kulhudhuffushi.

The lagoon of the island was reclaimed in 2010 followed by the launch of a development plan for the area. However, the project to expand the harbour, as part of the development plan, was not initiated.

The harbour expansion project is funded by a grant aid from Asian Development Bank (ADB). The expansion to 1,100-metres in length and 500-metres in width would cost over USD 8 million.

Under the project, MTCC will construct a passenger and cargo area that can cater large cargo vessels and accommodate long-distance passenger vessels from the central and southern regions. Moreover, as part of the harbour expansion project, MTCC will develop a ticket counter for ferry operators, offices, shops and convenience stores and cafés on the beach front.
