Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has revealed plans of conducting its annual Maldivians Travelling Abroad (MTA) survey this month.
The central bank states the survey is conducted primarily to aid them in estimating travel expenditure of Maldivians, which is one of the main components of the current account of the Balance of Payments (BOP) statistics.
MTA survey 2018 will be conducted from December 24 to 30 at the arrival terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA). During the survey, MMA personals will act as enumerators to collect details of expenditure by Maldivian travellers, including information of reason for travelling, destination, duration of stay, as well as amount the travellers spent on tickets, accommodation, medical and other expenses.
MMA requests for public support during the survey period. MTA survey has been conducted by MMA once every year since 2011.
