President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef has noted the importance of a responsible opposition party to hold the ruling party accountable.
In a tweet, the president of electoral body said the ruling party can only be held accountable under a leadership built in accordance with relevant rules and regulations. Shareef made the comments at a time when Progressive party of Maldives (PPM) has filed a case against Elections Commission at High Court regarding its Extraordinary Congress.
During the last hearing, the commission has requested High Court to change the judge's bench overseeing the case.
