Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances commences work

Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances has revealed it would be investigating deaths that occurred while individuals were in detention or under state care and under mysterious circumstances.

Speaking at a press conference, the President of the Commission on Investigation of Murder and Enforced Disappearances Husnu Al Suood has stated the work of the presidential commission has officially commenced and reiterated commitment to complete its work speedily, regardless of the 2-year deadline given. The president of the commission emphasised the mandate of the commission is closely related to the people. Speaking in this regard, he highlighted their efforts will be transparent and the public will be regularly informed on the progress of the investigations.

Husnu Al Suood also mentioned the commission will seek foreign expertise, under the guidance of the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, stating some countries have already volunteered their resources. He further stated efforts was underway to propose a bill to the parliament to strengthen the commission legally. He spoke on measures to be taken to prevent cases of murder and enforced disappearances in the future.

President Solih established the commission, in an effort to carry out the responsibilities of the state in ensuring justice for all, by conducting independent investigations for unresolved cases.
