Ibrahim Mohamed Solih swears in as the new President of Maldives

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sworn in as the 7th President of Maldives. The new President took his oath of office at the Special Assembly of the Parliament held at the National Stadium this evening. The oath was administered by the Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.

Following his oath-taking, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih signed the Instrument of Oath, and the Chief Justice and the Speaker of the Parliament signed as witnesses. It was then followed by a 21-gun salute and the national anthem.

Vice President-Elect Faisal Naseem was also sworn into office at the inaugural ceremony. The oath was administered by the chief justice. Thereafter, Vice President Naseem also signed the Instrument of Oath.

The Presidential Inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Former President of Sri Lanka Chandrika Kumaratunga, and other high-level foreign delegates. Also in attendance at the inauguration were former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, former President Mohamed Nasheed, and former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed.

Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won a landslide victory with 58% of the voting population in the presidential election held on September 23.
