High Court postpones verdict on EC vs. PPM case

High Court has postponed verdict on the case filed, regarding the Elections Commission's refusal to accept the decisions made during the Extraordinary National Congress held by Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), immediately after the 2018 Presidential Election.

After concluding all hearings in the trial, a sentencing hearing was scheduled, which has been postponed by the High Court, citing administrative issues. In the court process, Election Commission has maintained it refused to accept decisions made in the congress because it was held in defiance of set procedures.

PPM said it appealed the case to facilitate the resumption of party activities which have been halted with the rejection of party decisions at the congress. PPM also states the congress was held with observers from the commission in attendance and the decisions made in the Extraordinary National Congress were communicated within the set timeframe.
