Abdulla Shahid resigns from parliament

Parliamentarian Abdulla Shahid has resigned from parliament.

The former Speaker of Parliament told reporters at the parliament building that this would be his last day at parliament and as mentioned before, he will be seen in the future as part of the incoming government. He expressed hope that he would be able to serve the public loyally in the President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government, in the same way, he served at parliament.

Abdulla Shahid had been one of the longest-serving parliamentarians. Shahid served as Speaker of Parliament as a representative of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP). Although he has announced his resignation, he has not yet clarified in what capacity he would be serving the incoming government.

Abdulla Shahid currently leads the foreign relations committee of MDP.
