Maldives celebrates Victory Day

Maldives has held a flag hoisting and guard mounting ceremony in remembrance of the martyrs of November 3. The day began with the special congregational prayer organised by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), as part of the activities to mark Victory Day. It was followed by a flag hoisting and a guard mounting ceremony held at the Victory Day Monument.

Each year, MNDF conducts various activities to mark the day. The official and the annual assembly of MNDF servicemen is scheduled to be held tonight.

Furthermore, MNDF organised a special musical drill display at Republic Square in Male' City. Meanwhile, the musical drill will be held at Hulhumale' Central park tomorrow and in Villimale' on November 5.

It has been 30 years since Maldives attained victory over one of the major terrorist attacks the country has faced. 19 Maldivians lost their lives in the attack on November 3, 1988.

The day is marked in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend the country's sovereignty, independence and religion.
