According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, over 90,000 German tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year.
Statistics show the Maldives has welcomed 90,408 tourists from Germany so far this year. This makes them the fifth largest group of tourists by nationality. In the last year alone 167,822 German tourists have visited the Maldives.
The Maldivian Government in its aim to expand the tourism sector and increase the number of tourists that visit the country, has pushed targeted advertising to select countries. As to increase the number of tourists from Germany, Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) and DERTOUR Deutschland GmbH have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in February of this year. The MoU was signed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his state visit to Germany where he participated in a Maldives-German Business Roundtable. During the Roundtable discussion, DERTOUR stated that they would cooperate with VMC with the aim to bring 100,000 tourists from Germany by the end of this year and to bring 200,000 tourists in the following year.
According to statistics, China makes up the largest group of tourists by nationality, with 272,593 tourists. Russia makes up the second largest group with 213,562 tourists.
The Maldives has welcomed 1.4 million tourists so far this year. Of these, 1 million of tourists chose to stay at resorts, while 321,327 tourists chose to stay at guesthouses.
