Re-electing President Yameen is crucial to uphold Islamic faith: Shaheem

Running mate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has revealed if President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is not re-elected for a second term, there is a huge possibility a politician who prioritises the nation will not get the opportunity to govern the country again.

Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, the running mate of the ruling party noted if the opposition coalition candidate is elected, the foreign policy of Maldives will see drastic changes which will undermine the Islamic principles and the nationality of the country. For the aforementioned reasons, it is crucial to re-elect President Yameen for a second term, Shaheem said speaking on the programme.

Moreover, Shaheem noted the high number of religious scholars endorsing President Yameen proves the strong belief for the administration and the Islamic faith maintained in the country over the past five years. Refuting rumours religious scholars backing the current administration are seeking political posts; Shaheem assured religious scholars in Maldives are much more disciplined and will always keep on promoting Islamic values in the country.
