Gulf Cobla begins reclaiming land for Faresmaathodaa airport

Dubai-based Gulf Cobla has begun reclaiming land needed to construction an airport in Faresmaathodaa in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

With Gulf Cobla conducting the land reclamation project, the machinery and tools needed is provided by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). In this regard, MTCC has provided its cutter suction dredger for the project which is capable to reclaim 10 hectares of land in 10 days.

As part of the airport development project in Faresmaathodaa, an area of 18 hectares of land will be reclaimed. The airport developed in Faresmaathodaa will have a 1,200 kilometre runway, an apron and a passenger terminal. Gulf Cobla was contracted to reclaim land for the airport in Faresmaathodaa at a cost of USD 2.5 million.

The airport in Faresmaathodaa will be the fourth airport to be developed in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
