Imports increases by 38% in July

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the value of goods imported during July increased by 38%, compared to the same month of last year.
Goods worth over USD 192 million were imported during July last year, whereas the figure was recorded at over USD 266 million this year, according to statistics of Maldives Customs Service. The customs service stated among the top importing countries, UAE recorded the highest with 19% and China at second with 18%.
Meanwhile, value of goods exported during July showed an increase of 30%, compared to the same month of last year, which is an increase from USD 13 million to USD 17 million. Moreover, the Maldives customs noted the largest quantity of the exports were made to Thailand, which is 26% of the total exports for the month of July.
The total revenue collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during July 2018 showed an increase of 11% compared to that of July 2017. In this regard, USD 18.3 million was collected through customs duty last month.
