Economic minister calls on opposition to recover damages caused to state property

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has slammed the comments of opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih promising to complete the development of housing units for police and military personnel within the first year of his presidential term.
In a tweet, the economic minister criticised the opposition for commenting on an ongoing project initiated by the current administration and urged the opposition to recover the damages caused to state assets and individuals on February 8, 2012. It is estimated the damages caused by the opposition protests across Maldives on February 8 amounts over USD 10 million.
Meanwhile, the government has spent nearly USD 13 million to provide affordable housing units to security forces. In this regard, the government is constructing 6 14-storey towers, with 4 towers to be completed by the end of the year.
