The government of Maldives has slammed rumors spread by the opposition stating military forces are deployed for campaigning purposes for the upcoming presidential election. During a press conference, Jumhooree Party stated the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has been utilising military personnel in hanging PPM flags on the roads of Male' city and in other campaign activities. Refuting those rumors, Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar called to refrain from spreading false information which defames the character of military personnel and the entire force.
Defence Minister Adam Shareef reiterated the participation of military forces in any political activity is prohibited by law.
