Maldives Sees 11.5 Percent Growth in July Tourist Arrivals

The Maldives has recorded a significant increase in the number of tourists arriving in the Maldives in July this year compared to the same month last year.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the number of tourists arriving in the Maldives in July this year surpass corresponding arrival figures from both 2023 and 2024. The Daily Update report released by the Ministry shows that 186,738 tourists arrived in the Maldives in July this year, compared to 167,528 tourists that arrived in July last year. Therefore, this is an increase of 11.5 percent.

So far this year, 1,308,582 tourists have visited the Maldives. This figure is also an increase of 9.5 increase compared to the same period last year.

Monthly tourist arrivals in 2025:

• January: 214,863 tourists
• February: 214,091 tourists
• March: 203,468 tourists
• April: 198,322 tourists
• May: 135,614 tourists
• June: 141,772 tourists
• July: 186,738 tourists

So far this year, more than 100,000 tourists have visited the Maldives from three countries. They are China, Russia and the United Kingdom. A total of 192,370 tourists have visited from China while 154,335 arrivals have been recorded from Russia. Meanwhile, the UK has contributed 121,992 tourists.

The majority of tourists choose to stay in resorts, with 73.1 percent of visitors opting for resort stays. The second most popular choice is guesthouses, which accounts for 22 percent of tourist stays.

The government aims to attract 2.3 million tourists this year. So far, 1.3 million tourists have visited the Maldives. In July, an average of 6,857 tourists arrived in the Maldives daily.

While a new passenger terminal was recently opened at Velana International Airport, the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is working to shift the operations of all airlines flying to the Maldives to the new terminal ahead of the peak tourism season. The government believes the new terminal will help boost the number of tourists visiting the Maldives even further.
