President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has decided to absolve the traffic fines of 2015 and 2016.
A tweet posted by the Spokesperson of President's Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali revealed the president made the decision to ease the burden of traffic fines on youth.
In efforts to ease the living condition in Maldives, President Yameen has made very important decisions, Deputy Minister at Ministry of Economic Development Abdulla Siyaz said in a press conference held revealing more about the decision of the President. Fines of over USD 486,000 must be collected by the state as traffic stickers, vehicle tows and other traffic related fines from 2015 to 2016, according to statistics.
Moreover, the deputy minister Siyaz expressed difficulties have been faced when parking in the capital, Male' city, due to ongoing development projects, adding despite efforts of the government to find a solution to the parking situation, a sustainable solution has not been found.
