International Conferences hosted by Maldives increased: Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed has revealed the increase in the number of international conferences hosted by Maldives shows the success of the policies of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The home minister made the statement at the opening ceremony of the second International Halal Management Conference (IHMC).
The second IHMC is organised by Faculty of Economics and Muamalat (FEM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in collaboration with Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance (MCIF) and the Maldives National University (MNU). The conference held under the theme Sustaining Global Halal Ecosystem is a two-day conference seeking to provide a platform for researchers and academic scientists to present and discuss recent halal research issues, development, and findings.
The conference will enhance the Halal industry in Maldives, home minister Azleen Ahmed stated addressing the opening ceremony of the second IHMC. Minister Azleen said Maldives as a 100% Muslim country is privileged to host such an international conference, adding the conference will benefit Maldives. Noting the importance of halal market industry to Maldives as a country which is depended on tourism for a larger percentage of the economy, the minister highlighted the conference will enlighten about the opportunities available within the sector.
Moreover, highlighting the number of international conferences hosted in Maldives have increased within the past four years, the minister said 13 companies have introduced Islamic financing services in Maldives.
The second IHMC held at MNU aims to provide a platform for academics and industry players to discuss and collaborate in exploring opportunities for Halal Industry and to exchange information on contemporary research findings and valuable current inputs in improving existing policies, strategies and an implementable action plan to further develop Halal Industry. The conference also aims to share current research works, identify gaps for future research especially in the field of Halal friendly industry.
