Election Commission and Maldives Police Service have signed an agreement to provide support and security in the upcoming presidential election. The agreement was signed by President of Election Commission Ahmed Shareef and the acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ahmed Shareef stated Election Commission is seeking assistance from government authorities regarding the election and identifying the region's security needs to be boosted. As part of the agreement, the police service will provide security and protection at the voting centres and during the transportation of the ballot boxes. The acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz stated the police service will be ready for the election and assured full security and protection will be provided during the election.
The presidential election will be held September 23. Opportunity to submit presidential nominations will be opened in July, according to the Election Commission.
