Police clarify uncertainties about confidential informants

Maldives Police Service has assured that police adheres with relevant laws and regulations in obtaining confidential testimonies and urges to refrain from spreading rumors that could confuse the public regarding the role of the institution in obtaining confidential testimonies.
A lot of rumors has been spreading regarding the role of police in obtaining confidential testimonies, Superintendent of the Police Ahmed Shifan said addressing a press conference. Refuting these rumors, Shifan called for an immediate end to such rumors.
Police take specific measures, only in the interest of the confidential informant and that it is a duty mandated to the police under article 149 of the Criminal Procedures Act, according to Shifan.
