State Assets Recovery Commission identifies cases worth over USD 1.9 billion

State Assets Recovery Commission has revealed that corruption cases worth over USD 1.9 billion have been identified in its efforts to recover missing state assets.
State Assets Recovery Commission has prioritised the investigation of corruption cases involving more than USD 322,580, Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed said in a press conference. The Home Minister pointed out the lack of efforts by previous administrations in recovering lost assets. Minister Azleen revealed investigation on cases worth over USD 193 million have been completed and sent to Attorney General's Office and Prosecutor Generals' Office for prosecution.
The Minister revealed President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has extended the term of the State Assets Recovery Commission until November and assured the commission functions independently without any political motive.
The State Assets Recovery Commission, established by a Presidential Decree in 2017, is tasked with analysing efforts taken by the State institutions to recover the missing state assets highlighted in reports issued by the Office of the Auditor General and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
