Dr Ahmed Riyaz has been appointed as the Chief Statistician of the National Bureau of Statistics.
The National Bureau of Statistics has announced that Dr Ahmed Riyaz was appointed to the position of Chief Statistician under the Maldives Statistics Act, effective from 23 August 2026.
Under the Act, the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises is accountable to the Parliament for matters relating to the Bureau. The National Bureau of Statistics is administered by the Chief Statistician based on the advice of the Finance Minister.
One of the key objectives of the Act is to strengthen the statistical system of the Maldives by collecting and providing important statistics that accurately reflect the country’s economic, social and environmental conditions, and by making such information available in a reliable and timely manner.
