Leaked audio implicates former Vice President Adeeb of bribery

An officer of Maldives Police Service has testified that he has overheard former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb confess to offering USD 5.1 million, to ensure the delivery of the Supreme Court ruling of the 1st of February 2018. In a leaked audio statement, given by a marine police officer, the officer testified that he had overheard Ahmed Adeeb make a confession to that effect to Faris.
In the audio, the officer further revealed, that even a speed boat was prepared to transfer the former Vice President and the Member of Parliament for Dhiggaru constituency, following the Supreme Court ruling of the 1st of February 2018 and that both detainees were seated in the same speed boat during the time of the said verbal exchange between them.
He added that just moments after the conversation, he witnessed the detainees being escorted back to their prison quarters.
The statement was allegedly given to the ongoing investigation into the failed coup attempt of the first of February.
Audio files of witness statements given to the ongoing investigation into the failed coup attempt of the first of February have been leaked.
These include an audio statement of two judges, some police officers and some civilians.
According to Maldives Police Service, the institution is investigating how the files were leaked, as a serious criminal offence.
