A parliamentary committee has been tasked with vetting the two nominations forwarded by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).
The President forwarded his preferred choice for the two member positions on HRCM out of the eligible candidates who applied following the announcement by the President’s Office.
During the Parliament sitting on Tuesday, the President’s picks, Mohamed Faris Thoha and Mohamed Shafeeg Mamdhooh were forwarded to the Parliamentary Independent Institutions Committee for vetting.
The HRCM comprises five members. The current commission members are President Mariyam Muna, Vice President Moomina Waheed, members Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Samaau Ahmed Najeeb, and Ismail Habeeb. The two vacancies are open as the terms of Moomina and Shifaath are set to expire next month.
