Singaporean companies agree State of Emergency has no impact

Singapore companies operating resorts in Maldives have stated the declaration of State of Emergency has not had much of an impact on the tourism industry.

Eco Hotels, a leading hotel operator, said the State of Emergency had no notable impact on the properties it operates in Maldives, in an article in Strait Times of Singapore. Noting that even though some cancelled the bookings, Eco Hotels said the occupancy in resorts are high as it coincided with the Chinese New Year.

Moreover, Banyan Tree Holdings Limited also revealed the declaration of State of Emergency has not impacted the occupancy of their resorts in Maldives. The number of tourist arrivals would not be affected as long as there are no conflicts in the main airport of Maldives, according to Banyan Tree.

Furthermore, Singaporean resort developers in Maldives also highlighted their projects are progressing according to the schedule without any interruptions, adding the situation is different from what is been portrayed by some individuals.

In addition, Singapore Airlines also assured that tourists travelling to Maldives have not declined, despite the State of Emergency imposed in the country since February 5. Tour operators suggested the travel advisories issued by some countries have no impact on the tourism industry of Maldives.
