Maldives reiterates commitment to implement the SC ruling

Maldives reiterates commitment to international organizations and friendly countries, to respect the rulings of the Supreme Court and assures the Maldivian people and the international community that it is continuing to work with all relevant authorities to implement the Supreme Court ruling, in line with proper procedure and rule of law.

In a statement issued by the Minsity of Foreign Affairs, the government revealed that relevant state officials have sought clarification from the Chief Justice on the implementation of the Supreme Court ruling and assured that the government shall carry out the ruling in accordance with the directions given by the Chief Justice.

As the ruling involves a number of legal and procedural issues, all concerned national authorities are currently working in unison towards compliance. The Prosecutor General will submit to the Supreme Court to clarify the identified issues.

In the statement, the government assured its international partners that the relevant state officials are in consultation with the Chief Justice and working with his directions.

The matter will be resolved soon and there are no safety issues for foreign nationals working in the country, as well as those visiting the Maldives as tourists, the statement read.

The Government also assured, in the statement, that all tourism related businesses are operating as usual and that the situation in the Maldives remains safe and stable.
