President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom officially launches 2018 presidential campaign. He made the statement at a party rally outside the party headquarters at Maafannu ward.
Addressing a crowd of supporters, the President said Maldivian history has never witnessed a five year term that has been more turbulent than this. He said that the government moves forward not without obstacles, but despite them.
At the beginning of his speech the President spoke about the Supreme Court ruling. He said that the government shall persevere with the execution of the Supreme Court ruling.
He added that work is progressing, along with negotiations with the Chief Justice. Noting that the Supreme Court ruling was unexpected, the President said that the weekend has become a very busy weekend for the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives and the government.
First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim stood by the President's side, during the rally.
