HPA issues advisory comprising of precautionary health messages

Health Protection Authority (HPA) has issued an advisory comprising of precautionary health messages in handling food and medicines. HPA urged to take preventive measures and to be more attentive when using medicines highlighting the importance of staying hygienic at all times. HPA also advised to avoid children from getting out to the rain.

Moreover, National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC), Ministry of Defence and National Security, Maldives Police Services and other relevant authorities have advised the public to avoid sea transport.

Maldives is currently experiencing widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms over the country. The weather will ease starting from Saturday onwards, according to Maldives Meteorological Services,

The Meteorogical Office has issued yellow alert to areas between Haa Alifu and Kaafu Atoll with expected torrential rain with average winds of 30 to 35 mph and gust winds of 55 mph.

Cyclone Ockhi in the Arabian Sea is now located about 650 kilometres to the west of Colombo and moving further away from the region. Its effects on the region are expected to lessen gradually. However, showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the region.
