IOM commences one day conference in Maldives

The Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration Conference has commenced in the Maldives. The one day conference held at Champa Central Hotel is an initiative by the Maldivian Government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The core objective of this conference is to prepare for the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants which is to be ratified and brought into action by the year 2018. 

Addressing the key note of the opening ceremony of the conference, State Minister of Economic Development Abdul Latheef Mohamed stated that the government of President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom is keen on the development of the nation. Maldives has always had excellent relations with all foreign countries and in future would collaborate with all countries in such endeavor, added the State Minister.

The Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration Conference has participants from various governmental authorities participating in it.

Migration has been both a national and global concerns due to the many problems which arise with it and the conference aims to come up with solutions to tackle these problems. In the conference, topics such as stopping Human Trafficking, Migration Governance and Drivers of Governance would be discussed.
